Galewood Elementary School
Points of Pride
Our social responsibility program has given us not only a common focus and vocabulary in instructing young students in character-building issues, but has also developed a cooperative team among the staff and promoted self-esteem among students and staff. We are proud of the work we do at Galewood. This project is the foundation for solving other school issues such as raising achievement scores, extending parental involvement, and improving instructional practices.
Each student at Galewood is chosen as the student of the week from his/her classroom once during the year.
Science Day
Volunteers in the scientific community provide students with special learning experiences on Science Day.
Science Fair
A large majority of students demonstrate the scientific process with a unique scientific problem.
Mini-Society
Third grade students experience firsthand the ins and outs of our political and economic system
Bookstore
Each week students visit our bookstore where quality literature books may be purchased. This activity is organized by Galewood PTO.
Michigan History
Each year fourth graders intensely study Michigan history. The
result of their work is seen through a museum display of their projects.
Award
The Galewood staff were presented the Michigan's Best, Excellence in Education Award from the MASB (Michigan Association of School Boards) for innovative professional development programs.
