Copyright and E-mail Abuse

reporting proceedures

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, signed into law on October 28, 1998, amended the copyright law to provide limitations for service provider liability to material online.

The Copyright Office requires that a service provider designate an agent to receive notifications of claimed infringement.  It also requires that a service provider terminate infringing users’ service and/or act to have the infringing material removed.

To report Copyright infringement on the Charlotte Public School district web site or from a CharlotteNet (scnc.cps.k12.mi.us) e-mail account holder:

Send an e-mail message that includes the offending e-mail message’s full header information and any relevant information regarding the infringement along with the URL of the web page or the offending e-mail message to: abuse@scnc.cps.k12.mi.us

To report e-mail abuse (e.g. pornographic, harassing, etc.) from an account holder on the CharlotteNet e-mail service:

Send an e-mail message that includes a forward or attachment of the offending e-mail message. Your message should also include any other relevant information regarding this abuse. You must include the offending e-mail message’s full header information when you forward the message to: abuse@scnc.cps.k2.mi.us

If you are a CharlotteNet account holder and you think that someone is using your account without permission (e.g. your password has been cracked), do NOT send an e-mail message.  Instead, CALL the Director of Media and Technology Services at 517.543.2810 to report the problem.
