Charlotte Public Schools is located in the City of Charlotte, Michigan and surrounding townships in northeastern Eaton County. The district is comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district covers an area of 124 square miles with a total enrollment of over 3300 children.

Four bond proposals, passed by the community in 1999, approved construction of a new 196,000 sq. ft. middle school to house grades 5-8; a modern football/soccer/track facility at the high school, new technology-equipped computer labs at the high school and elementary buildings, and upgraded elementary school heating systems and traffic areas.

Two additional bond proposals were passed in December 2001, to build and equip a new auditorium and make renovations at the high school, and build and equip an eight lane swimming pool and separate exercise pool, both of which will be part of the new middle school.

Passage of all of these bond proposals means that district residents have voted to support the educational needs of students and the community totaling $63 million in the last two years.

All four elementary schools, our middle school and high school have been accredited by the North Central Association. The new middle school is has been completed ahead of schedule and is now open for the 2002-2003 school year. It is a fifth through eighth grade school utilizing team based instruction. Charlotte High School operates on a 4x4 block schedule. This offers students greater flexibility in scheduling and allows in-depth, focused and organized concentration on fewer subjects each quarter. A Career Pathways program is in its second year of implementation at the high school. A large percentage of students benefit from the opportunity to be dual enrolled in traditional high school and Lansing-based Community College classes, as well as Intermediate School District vocational programs.

Inter-school athletics are an integral part of the school program. High school students may participate in any of 18 different sports, involving approximately 34 teams. The Middle School offers six sports, involving nine teams. A wide range of clubs and activities are available to Middle School and Senior high students. In addition to the award winning Middle School and Senior High School Band programs, students can participate in a full range of Choir and Dramatic programs.

Special Education provides a full range of services for infants and students to age 26 in the least restrictive environment. A wide variety of Community Education classes and activities are offered during the day and evening throughout the year for adults and children.

Charlotte Public Schools has been an active participant collaborating in a recent community-wide strategic planning effort and has forged a partnership with local business and industry. Combined with strong parental support and involvement, Charlotte Public Schools looks forward to providing quality learning opportunities for the entire community.
